Supportive Housing Trainings
The Life Link Training Institute in cooperation with the Behavioral Health Services Division of the State of New Mexico will be offering Basic and Advanced Supportive Housing Training classes in 2019 and 2020. These 1-1/2 day trainings will be held in multiple locations throughout the State in both urban and rural areas and will offer CEUs (Continuing Education Unit) credits for social workers. The purpose is to expand the knowledge about effective supportive housing service delivery practices in provider agencies and the peer workforce to ensure the success of more vulnerable tenants in supportive housing programs. Invitees will include behavioral health providers and other support services agencies, Peers, Local Lead Agencies staff, Linkages service providers, and Continuum of Care grant recipients.
The trainings, which will be provided by both agency staff and certified peers, will cover the following topics: an overview of Supportive Housing principles and techniques; How to assist consumers to find, get and keep housing; the importance of offering a range of support services and service intervention techniques; the benefits of using Peers with housing expertise on a services team; the roles of the supportive housing partners (Services, Property Management and Local Lead Agencies); how to access subsidized housing and State funded and Federally funded housing programs in NM; addressing tenancy issues through eviction prevention planning and how to request a reasonable accommodation or modification. It will also provide guidance about the new Medicaid waiver designed to provide reimbursement for using Peers in Linkages program service delivery and home visits to tenants. The dates and locations of the Supportive Housing Trainings will be announced in early 2019. This training is made possible through two grants to New Mexico from SAMHSA State Opiod Response Grant (SOR) and a Mental Health & Substance Abuse Service Grant – HHRHI. |
